H3014 - The Kingdom of Mercia, Offa (757-796), Silver Penny, 1.24g., Portrait & Cross of Lobes type, 'light coinage', struck c.787-792, London mint, moneyer Dudda, diademed draped bust right (Cc type), quatrefoil behind head above diadem, trefoil behind neck below it, OFFA REX in front, rev., +DUD in angles of a cross of lobes with small saltire botonnée in centre, nine pellets spaced around the edge, (S.905; N.296;, CEB 28; Chick 24), a full round coin with only slight irregularity along part of the rim, good very fine / extremely fine, darkly toned, great portrait of good style with full regal name, third known example of this type, fully recorded find spot. $4250 SOLD

Found with the aid of a metal detector at the village of Allhallows on the south side of Hoo peninsula on the Medway estuary in Kent, England.
