This iconic coinage is now thought to date to the period following Regnald's (c.919-c.921) death, most likely struck, albeit anonymously, during the reign of Sihtric (I) Coach. With it's mixing of pagan and Christian references, the name of the first apostle and Thor's hammer and sword, this coinage reflects the competing influences within Viking culture at the time.
