Lead Seal, 5.94g., 24mm diameter, 3mm thick, in the style of a Paxs type (c.1083-c.1086),
London mint, moneyer unknown,
crowned facing bust of king, holding sceptre in his right hand, +PILLEM REX,
rev. cross pattée, in each angle an annulet containing a letter of
the word PAXS, [+......] ON LVNDENI (as N.848; S.1257), very fine or
better, metal in good condition, has been bent in the past perhaps for
official use, rare and interesting.

Seals of this type have
been found in the Thames and it has suggested that they were officially
produced and served as customs seals on goods traded through the port of
London. The dies employed here whilst very well executed, up to the standard
of the coinage, are too large to have been used to strike pennies.
