Produced after the
execution of Charles I on January 30th 1649 (1648 in the Julian calendar)
items like these were worn secretly by Royalist sympathizers during the time
of the Cromwellian Republic. Suspended around the neck this locket could
have been concealed beneath a shirt of jacket. |
