Antestius Gragulus (136 B.C.), Silver Denarius, 3.69 g., helmeted head of Roma right, GRAG behind and mark of denomination before (monogram XVI), rev., Jupiter driving quadriga right, holding thunderbolt, reins, and eagle-tipped sceptre, L ANTES below, ROMA in exergue, (Crawford 238/1; Sydenham 451; Antestia 9), toned, extremely fine. $395 SOLD

Lutatius Cerco (c.109–108 B.C.), Silver denarius, 3.81g., head of Roma or perhaps Mars right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet ornamented with feather at side and two stars on bowl, mark of denomination behind (XVI monogram) , [ROMA] above, CERCO under chin, rev., galley right, Q. LVTATI / Q (VT in monogram) above, all within oak wreath, (Crawford 305/1; Sydenham 559; RSC Lutatia 2; RCV 182), very fine, marks on bust. $95

R1361 - Roman Republic, Struck Coinage, Post-Reform Issues, Copper As, 33.30g., (189-179 B.C.), bearded laureate head of Janus, I above, rev., the prow of a galley right, Bull right above, MD (ligate) in front, (RCV 673; Syd.299, Craw.142/1), odd shaped flan, obverse off-centre, otherwise attractive dark green brown patina, very fine. $195

Coponius (49 B.C.), Silver Denarius, 3.97g., diademed head of Apollo right, star below, Q SICINIVS III VIR,  rev., C COPONIVS PR S C, club draped with lion's skin, lion's head right, (RCV 413; RRC 444/1; RSC Sicinia 1-2, 4), bankers mark on the face, good very fine, toned with a superb provenance. $260

Frugi (67 B.C.), Silver Denarius, 3.92g., head of Apollo right, hair tied with a band, pileus control mark behind,  rev., a naked horseman galloping right, holding a palm branch, control mark Ù above, C PISO L F FRV below,  (RCV 348; RRC 408/1b; Calpurnia 24ff), minor metal flan on reverse in legend, otherwise practically as struck, an exceptional example of a common coin. $495
