H4500 - Stephen (1135-1154), Silver Penny, 1.36g., B.M.C. type VII, Awbridge type (c.1154-c.1158), Winchester - [.VES]? , bearded crowned bust of king three-quarters left, holding sceptre in his right hand, rev., cross voided within beaded quatrefoil, with a fleur spring from the quatrefoil in each angle, [+.]VES ON:PINC. (N.881; S.1282), striking crack with daylight, good silver, otherwise of sound fabric, doublestruck obverse, very fine, rare. $395 SOLD

The moneyer [.]VES is otherwise unknown for this type or mint, the mint name.

JCN44 - Stephen (1135-1154), Silver Penny, 1.11g., Local Variant of Watford type, Bury St. Edmund - Hunfrei, crowned and diademed bust of king left, holding sceptre in his right hand, +STIEFNE+, rev. cross moline, with a fleur each angle, +HVNFRI:ON:EDM [hVNF engraved over hENR?], (N.873; S.1278), extremely rare, only recorded example, toned, very minor edge crack at 12 o'clock, almost extremley fine. $6995
